LAUNDRY LOVE UPDATE

With social distancing guidelines still in place, it was necessary to cancel the Laundry Love evening of May 12th. As in the month of April, the St. Peter Laundry Co made laundry tokens available by appointment to individuals/families who have been regular attendees. Three individuals/families participated. The same format may be utilized next month if social distancing guidelines remain in place. We are currently scheduled for Tuesday, June 9th.

LAUNDRY LOVE UPDATE

Because of the social distancing guidelines in place for avoiding coronavirus, the Laundry Love evening of April 14th was cancelled. Recognizing that this might cause a hardship for people at a time when they most need support for clean laundry, consultation with the St. Peter Laundry Co resulted in a plan to make laundry tokens available upon appointment. Individuals who had been regular attendees were contacted to come in and pick up a token packet. Three individuals/families participated. The same format may be utilized next month if social distancing guidelines remain in place. We are currently scheduled for May 12th.

LAUNDRY LOVE UPDATE

Church of the Holy Communion’s Laundry Love mission met on January 14th and washed 84 loads of laundry and dried over 96 loads of laundry, serving 11 individuals and families from the St. Peter area. In addition to washing their laundry, participants were encouraged to choose a pair of warm fleecy mittens supplied by Barb Boutwell and her sewing circle, a very welcomed task given the wind chilled sub-zero temperatures of the evening. Our next Laundry Love evening is set for February 11 from 5:30 to 7:30. Come join us if you can.

October 2019

"Laundry Love" met on September 10th from 5:30 to 7:30 and was sponsored by the Mayo Clinic/Immanuel St. Joseph pharmacists, who raised $290 for the Laundry Love program. Many thanks to all of them and especially to Joe Flynn, who organized the evening. 31 loads of laundry were washed and 41 dried. The next Laundry Love evening will be Tuesday, October 8 from 5:30 to 7:30. A sign-up sheet for helpers is on Bev's bulletin board. We need three or four people to handle an evening. If you've never joined us, we invite you to consider dropping by during the session. We always have cookies!

September 2019

"Laundry Love” met on the second Tuesday of June, September, and August from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In June we sponsored 49 loads of laundry; in July we sponsored 25.5, and in August we sponsored 36.5 loads. Our guests are becoming well-acquainted with the process and there is plenty of visiting back and forth. We usually have a tin full of home-made cookies and books and art supplies for the kids to enjoy.

Our next Laundry Love will be on Tuesday, September 10 from 5:30 to 7:30. It will be sponsored by the Mayo Clinic, and Joe and Cassie Flynn will be heading up this session.

A big thank-you to all who support and volunteer for this mission. You are making a difference in people's lives.

July-August 2019

Laundry Love will be continuing over the summer months on the second Tuesday of the month for June, July, and August. On June 11th we had visitors from the Union Presbyterian Church in St. Peter to check out the Laundry Love program and how it works. Their visit was in response to our invitation to consider becoming a partner in the Laundry Love effort in St. Peter. After spending the evening with us, and learning the ropes, the delegation from Union Presbyterian expressed interest in considering a partnership. Their timeline will be to initiate discussion within their church and aim for a decision some time in the Fall. Thanks to everyone who has helped to make this program such a success.

June 2019

The next Laundry Love event will be on Tuesday, June 11th from 5:30 to 7:30. We are moving from Wednesday to Tuesday evenings for the summer to accommodate scheduling difficulties. We had a great volunteer turn-out at our last session on May 8th. Thanks to all of you who showed up in a driving snow/slush/rainstorm! We had a quiet but steady evening, and washed and dried 64 loads of laundry. The Laundry Love Committee is interested in partnering with other organizations and welcome suggestions from the congregation. Again, thanks for your support for this very worthwhile mission.

LAUNDRY LOVE

(March 2019)

Many thanks to all who participated in our Laundry Love Fund Drive. We collected $1269 and two donations of detergent and dryer sheets for this very worthy program of helping those in need with clean clothes and bedding. During our last session on February 13, we spent $122.50, helping 9 individuals and families with 80+ loads of laundry. Please think about volunteering for one of the evenings, too. It’s a good time to meet your neighbors and get to know your community.
